Designing for Good is Good Design
As a rule, people do not tend to agree on a lot, but most reasonable people like scientists and researchers are sounding the alarm about climate change and have done so for many years. That does not mean we are done. There has been a lot of research into what the problem is, what caused the matter, and how climate change is and will impact our world. Researchers believe that artists’ right-brained thinking provides a unique perspective. This website offers art students an opportunity to be a part of the solution. Bringing everyone on board is just what this crisis needs.
This website goal is to provide student artist with a voice to make statements about climate change with their artwork. Sometimes it is easy to feel small, especially when looking at huge matters like the environment. Our power is limited, but that does not mean it is inconsequential. This website accepts images of climate change art from artists. Our target populations include high school and college students. The idea is to get student artists thinking about how they can make the world a better place.
There have been worldwide collaborations, like the Paris Climate Accord. Art has been front and center. Participating in climate change awareness is not only a responsible thing to do, it is an opportunity for artist share their work and has the potential to generate income and develop contacts while learning about what other artists are doing.
Some of the artists making a living creating art pertaining to climate change include: David Buckland, Xavier Cortado, Zaria Forman, Antony Gormley, Peter Kennard, Pedro Marzaroti, Nazhia Mestaui, Elsa Munoz, John Sabrow, and Camille Seaman. By encouraging climate change artwork, there is opportunity for a budding artist to make a difference by exploring altruistic artwork. It is very possible, that a door is opening to a student’s future that will change the world. This all may sound a little dramatic, but imagine the possibilities that could come by simply encouraging students to expand their parameters and consider that they have a bigger role to play in the future than they may have previously thought.
